SEAHAWKS SUPERHEROES SWING SEATTLE TOWARDS SUPER BOWL
It was like the Emerald City was the Nation’s hub of great moments, amazing plays and Super Seahawks! Led by the Mastermind Pete Carroll and his band of Seahawks, the Blue and Green beat the Super Bowl Champs.
We could have just been the team that held proud with the pride displayed by this Hawks guy.
And that would have been cool with me.
But, the win against the Saints showcased everything you want in a game. Especially in the playoffs.
1. Quarterback: When your QB shreds it for 4 TDs, all of which were amazing. That makes a fanbase feel good. Matt Hasselbeck rocked Seattle with his leadership and his arm.
2. Scoring: When your hometeam scores more than 40 points, the sky is the limit and it’s f’n awesome to unleash that much offense.
3. Defense: Stops on 4th Down, holding Brees to Field Goals and holding a running game down, well that makes this 12th Man feel fulfilled.
4. A Superhero Emerges: Marshawn Lynch is the talk of the town with his unforgettable play. I was there and witnessed the sight of Beast Mode on the field and the amazing sounds in the stands. It was the star we’ve been waiting for all season long.
5. Huge Plays: Hasselbeck whipped it downfield to Williams, Stokely, Morrah and Obomanu. Three were TDs, only two counted.
6. Nationwide Buzz: Everyone is talking about that game. An amazing upset over a top team. An amazing play, some say the best run of all-time. From Seattle to New York, the nation is talking about the Seahawks, Beast Mode, Qwest Field and the 12th Man.
The happiness the 12th Man is feeling is justified. It’s great to have a team and season keep fighting. Keep it going Seahawks, we’re waiting to see what’s next.
Whitehurst Leads Seahawks to Promised Land
Throughout the season I’ve had mixed feelings on the quarterback position. I’ve felt Hasselbeck deserves his respect and should start. I’ve also been impressed with Charlie Whitehurst and feel the fans need to see what he can do with reps, gameplanning and experience. Now with Charlie winning the play-in game against the Rams, who deserves to start the Playoff game if Hasselbeck is healthy.
Here are my arguments for both players.
HASSELBECK
PROS: Veteran. Experienced. Lots of Playoff Experience. Took team to Superbowl (with cast of other Seattle Greats). Played good against the Saints earlier this season. GREAT LEADER.
CONS: Old. Arm is weaker. Wheels are broken. Has forced the ball and made many bad decisions. Having a bad season.
WHITEHURST
PROS: Younger. Agile. Strong Arm. Selected by Current Coach and GM. Just won big game to advance team. Runs first to get out of trouble. Team seemed to rally around him.
CONS: Inexperienced. Not on the same page with his receivers yet. Accuracy problems. Doesn’t know the playbook like Hasselbeck. Runs first to get out of trouble.
So, what is Pete Carroll going to do? I think up until this last game, Hasselbeck would have been the choice but the play of Whitehurst leads to a big bunch of questions. Is Charlie the right guy for this Playoff game? Is he the guy for the future? Is he just a backup in Seattle? Do the Seahawks need to draft a QB in the 1st or 2nd round? Did the Seahawks win because of the things Charlie can do and Matt can’t do anymore? Is it time to just turn the team over to Charlie Whitehurst?
My choice…. Go with Charlie. Momentum always moves forward. Keep what worked going. They didn’t score a lot of points in this last game but they didn’t need to. Against the Saints he will and I want to see what he can do when asked to be productive in the offense.
Give Charlie the ball coach, he got us to the next level. Matt is hurt and not the same Matt that made him the franchise’s all-time greatest QB. Let Whitehurst guide the ship.
WINTER BLAST WON’T COOL DOWN HOT-HANDED HASSELBECK
It’s been an up and down season for the Seahawks in general. Both the offense and the defense have showcased great achievements. They’ve also been ineffective or torn apart. With that being said, I still feel like I see improvement from week to week.
One of the guys who has come on strong as of lately, is the franchise’s all-time leading Quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck.
As a lifelong Seahawks fan, I’ve always had an affinity with the QB position. Dave Krieg was my first favorite . I pulled for John Friesz. I was stoked about Rick Mirer (after his rookie year). I loved wearing a #1 jersey during the Warren Moon era. I loved wearing a #7 during the Jon Kitna era. I even wore a #4 during the hope-filled Trent Dilfer era. The Quarterback’s jersey I have donned the most belongs to Number 8. I’ve even worn one out.
To my friends, I’ve referred to him as “The Great One”. When he made his famous quote at Green Bay in the playoffs, I didn’t think it was a mistake, I thought it was awesome. Cocky. Bold. Full of Swagger. The year the Seahawks went to the Super Bowl, I had a late night discussion on how good I think Matt will be that season. It went until 4 in the morning with me presenting a strong case for big year for Hasselbeck. Needless to say, Matt started for the NFC in the Pro Bowl that season.
This season, I’ve been tough on Hasselbeck and I’ve even wanted to see Charlie Whitehurst get a chance under center. Matt has been a polarizing sports figure in Seattle in the last few years. I think that Matt, who is with his 3rd offensive coordinator in 3 seasons, takes on a lot of crap for the performance of the team. He is our leade,r but he didn’t put the Seahawks in the hole they were in the last few seasons.
Here is what I have to say about our STARTING QUARTERBACK.
Hasselbeck deserves our respect. Hasselbeck deserves our patience. Hasselbeck deserves to lead the Seahawks back to the playoffs this season.
In the early 2000′s, he was the field general of the team put together by Mike Holmgren. A team got Seattle to it’s first ever appearance in the Super Bowl. Despite a few bad catches and some horrendous referee calls, Matt Hasselbeck was on pace to have one of the greatest performances in Super Bowl history. Look at the game, look at the statistics.
When Hasselbeck first started getting reps with the team in early part of the decade, he was chucking the ball all over the place. He was making big plays with his receivers and keeping the Seahawks alive in games. At the age of 35 (same as me, for another week) Matt has been successful with the emergence of receivers Mike Williams, Ben Obomanu and Deon Butler. Matt finally has respectable targets to help move the offense down the field…fast. That sort of play-making option or playbook has been missing in the last few years. Matt has moved the ball vertically and stretched the defense pretty well in the last few weeks. It has been awesome to watch.
Matt seems re-charged and because of the competition created by Pete Carroll and John Schneider, he has risen to the occasion. Even though Charlie Whitehurst hasn’t blown anyone away with his actions on the field, he has pushed Matt with a little bit of quarterback controversy and competition. That is a direct effect of the Seahawks new leadership and I like it.
When the team takes the field at home on Sunday, Iwill look forward to seeing Matt Hasselbeck lead the offense against one of the Seahawks oldest foes, The Kansas City Chiefs.
So, in summary, I apologize to Matt Hasselbeck, one of my favorite Seahawks of all-time
for doubting him. He can expect me to wear my #8 this Sunday at Qwest Field and support the Hawks from the cheap seats.
Right Time for Whitehurst to Rock Hawks Offense
[picappgallerysingle id="9580836"]Finally, Seahawk Serpico will be at the helm of Pete Carroll’s offense. It’s a good time for the Seahawks to give Charlie a chance to run the offense for several reasons.
A.Seahawks fans want to see what this guy can do and/or is this guy the future of the team. (I think he is the guy)
B.The Seahawks offense is struggling. Nothing is working downfield for the team. Maybe Whitehurst can make a little magic with the longball downfield. (Matt is not the same QB of the past)
C. The Giants are tough and it’s a little more acceptable to lose at home with our backup then with the starter. Maybe Hasselbeck’s head injury was a blessing in a beard. (Whitehurst has a beard)
D. Hasselbeck has a concussion can’t play by league rules. ( Rest your head Matthew)
SO, with those reasons being stated. I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHITEHURST AS A STARTER!!!!!!
The dude (not the Big Lebowski) can throw. Far. Fast. Accurate. Now we will see how he does in a regular season game with a depleted offensive line. No matter what, it’s time to see what Serpico can do.
It’s a great test and hopefully a jolt to the offense that moves us up and down the field.
Let’s Go Seahawks. Let’s Go Serpico. Let’s rattle Eli’s self confidence.
Raiders..Schmaiders..Seahawks Will Take Oakland
No one misses the AFC West rivalries like me. I hated Denver, KC, San Diego and yes, the Raiders. But as we were moved into the ultra competitive NFC West aka ”the nation’s division” (come on) my hate kind of died. I’m still waiting for the angst I had for the AFC West to transfer over to Arizona, St. Louis and the Rams. It’s almost there but it’s not the same.
But with this season’s schedule, consisting of games against our old foes, my hate has returned.
The Raiders got to bust on one of their oldest foes last week as they dropped 59 points (not scoring in the 4th at all) on the Denver Broncos. Now we, the Seahawks, get to head down to Oaktown, bringing our new swagger against what I think was most likely a fluke last week vs. Denver.
Here’s the Raiders deal…revolving QBs…. coach is a freak…… Al Davis is still alive. Yes, they have some bright spots with Run DMC and Heyward-Bey. Yes, they have their so-called Hardcore fans (they never sell out and their games are blacked out) and it’s always a tough place but they are all over the place.
WE….the Seahawks are a work in progress, moving at the speed of Carroll and Schneider. Each week, something big has emerged to add to this improving team. First it was the run defense… then the special teams…then the quarterback pressure…then the receivers…. then the Beast Mode. Each week, these good things remain and one more thing is added. For a team that has taken on a complete overhaul, it sure doesn’t feel like rebuilding. It feels like they just keep adding more chips to their stack.
This game against Oakland is huge. We need to take down these fools, old Seahawks style. I want that old 80′s, Krieg to Largent, Curt Warner sweeps, Kenny Easley rocks someone, kind of Raiders beating.
I want to win. I want to lead the division and I WANT TO BEAT THE RAIDERS.
