SEAHAWKS POST HONORS: SEAHAWKS QB, DAVE “MUDBONE” KRIEG

Seahawks Legend Dave Krieg

Growing up as a young Seahawks fan, I had the extreme privilege of watching one my favorite players in Seahawks history, Dave Krieg.  The Ultimate Achiever.  Such a great achiever that The Big Lebowski would have displayed his picture and plaque on his wall for The Dude to appreciate.

Krieg is Rudy.  Dave started out at Milton College (No longer in existence) as the 7th string QB.  He then worked his way up to 4th string quarterback.  In his first game as the starter, Krieg completed three of 4 passes (3 for TDs).  He was given the starting position from that point on.

Krieg then went on to the NFL.  Undrafted.  Given a chance with the Seattle Seahawks.  Dave impressed Coach Chuck Knox and eventually knocked fan favorite QB Jim Zorn out of his starting position.   This is where Krieg started his reign of sporadic but sometimes glorious play at QB.

Now to say Dave Krieg had great hands under center would be a lie.  But to say the man could make something happen out of nothing, well, that was what I witnessed as a kid.

One of my all-time favorite plays in history involved these names….Kansas City, Derrick Thomas, Dave Krieg and Paul Skansi.  The Chiefs Hall of Fame Linebacker dominated the Seahawks all-day long, sacking Krieg a record 7 times.  It felt like the Chiefs had sacked Krieg almost every other play.  I was watching this game with my dad in our living at room at home.  We were used to KC beating us at Arrowhead every year.  (We lived in Kansas City for 12 years and would trudge out to Arrowhead ever year to watch the Seahawks get swarmed by an army of Red.  It’s easy for me to say, I hated the f’n Chiefs) With under 2 minutes in the game, trailing, Krieg put together an amazing drive.  Inching the Seahawks down the field with short and long passes. With just seconds left in the game, Krieg escaped Thomas’ eighth sack to burn a pass right into the safe hands of Paul Skansi for an Amazing and Unforgettable Win!  No time on the clock. Seahawks actually win at Arrowhead.  My dad and I almost jumped through the ceiling because of what Krieg and Skansi did on that play.

Dave Krieg was awarded the greatest play on Monday Night Football’s 20th anniversary.  In a game against the Los Angeles Rams, Krieg fumbled the ball (he did this a few times) about 20 yards back, picked up the ball, scrambled and found an open receiver for the Win.  It was standard Krieg.  The dude played with emotion, heart and gave ever bit he could.

Krieg was at the helm when Seattle won its first playoff game.  Krieg and Curt Warner beat the Miami Dolphins in an amazing playoff game at the Orange Bowl.  Krieg was the QB of Seattle first division championship.

The year Dan Marino threw an NFL record 48 TD passes, guess who was in second?  Dave Krieg with 32.  Not too shabby.

Over the last few years, Matt “The Great One” Hasselbeck has taken over the franchise records for Seahawks Quarterbacks in Yards, Completions in Career and Season rankings.  But it’s been Krieg that Matt has had to buck for the top position.  Dave still holds on to the Seahawks career TD mark with 195.

So, Seahawks nation on this Wednesday we give praise and throw one back for Seahawks Ring of Honor Inductee and legend, Dave Krieg.  Long live Mudbone and his mysterious nickname, the handle of which Krieg refuses to explain its origin or where it came from.

High Ankle Sprain Equals High Seahawks Pain

The most popular ankle in Seattle has yet a new report…. Russell Okung’s injury on Saturday has resulted in a DUN DUN DUN…. HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN!!!! (Screaming Voice).  The dreaded evil brother to the low ankle sprain.  What does this mean for the Seahawks?  They need to get a replacement for Matt Hasselbeck’s Blindside.  The plan is to plug Mansfield Wrotto (the player Seattle selected with the draft pick from the Darrell Jackson trade) into the LT spot.  Also Chester Pitts (recovering from microfracture surgery) is also on the mend and may be able to slide into the position until BIG RUSS gets back.

HAWKA HAWKA HAWKA!!!

[picappgallerysingle id="6516082"]It’s starting to get a little cut and dry on who will make the Seahawks 53-Man Roster.  The receivers are seperating from their pack.  The running backs are running away from their competition and linebackers are stacking up for the season.   The team has to start making cuts in the next few days.  Who do you think deserves to be on the team that might be on the bubble?  Comment below.

Seattle Times Blogger and Beat Writer Danny O’Neil (who would be a good friend to seahawkspost.com) gave his early look at the roster, who is on the bubble and who has to find a miracle.

[picappgallerysingle id="7576179"]According to Professor John Clayton, Vincent Jackson is asking for a 5 Year, $50 million contract.  Sorry V-Jack enjoy making no money this season as your holdout costs you millions.

(Pulling Vincent Jackson off to the side)

Hey Vince, it’s me, Seahawks fan…. We want you, the team wants you, so why don’t you get your head out and lower your price.  Your numbers are good but not great, not 10 Million a year great.  Get real V-Jack.  Plus you might be a 6 Game suspension guy?!?!  Come on Vincey.

Ok here are a few updates on the Vincent Jackson situations…
