Lynch to Seattle still swirling

The Buffalo Bills now have a problem and it’s name is Marshawn Lynch. Lynch’s absence from voluntary camp have created more trade rumors than overpriced DT Albert Haynesworth of the Washington Redskins. On May 28th, the afternoon of Seattle releasing RB LenDale White, I wrote that Lynch would soon be coming to Seattle.

Weeks later, Lynch’s name is still in the news and Buffalo is losing it’s grip on any value they would have gotten for Lynch prior to the draft. Marshawn is now the odd man out in Buffalo with a backfield stacked with talent. Even the Buffalo press is getting ready to ship Lynch out of town.

It’s time for Buffalo ownership to simply cut the running back loose and sever their losses. The Bills reportedly wanted a second or third round pick for Lynch during the draft, now the offer is circulating at a 4th round pick, Buffalo should simply cut their losses and take what they can get because Lynch will not be on the final 53 man roster heading into the 2010 season.

After a week where Seattle Seahawks WR Golden Tate made unwanted news surrounding an incident at a donut shop in Seattle, Golden Tate made some more news.

If things don’t work out in Seattle for the former Notre Dame star, he can always fall back on a MLB career. Tate was selected 1,518th in the major league baseball draft this week, the 8th to last player chosen in the 50 round draft by the San Francisco Giants.

Tate played center field for the Notre Dame baseball team.

Seattle Seahawks WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh feels good about the 2010 season. So good infact, that he is proclaiming that he will catch at least 100 passes in the upcoming season.

[picappgallerysingle id="7413996"]Speaking on Sirius Radio, Houshmandzadeh said, “I think 100 catches, to me, should be the minimum I get this year just because of the offense we’re in.” His best year, 2007, Housh recorded 112 receptions and scored 12 touchdowns, of course he had Chad Ochocinco playing on the other side of the field from him. In Seattle he’ll see a lot more double coverages heading into 2010.

The Seattle Seahawks released DT DeMarcus Granger last Thursday. On Friday they released RB LenDale White.

Who is Charlie Whitehurst?

The Seattle Seahawks completed a trade with the San Diego Chargers in March which brought  backup QB Charlie Whitehurst to the Emerald City but just who is he and why did the ‘Hawks value him so highly?

[picappgallerysingle id="6724023"]Whitehurst, 27, has yet to attempt a pass in a regular season game, but has sat on the bench for 4 years behind Phillip Rivers, not exactly a bad mentor. The Seahawks are hoping that Rivers has helped to groom Whitehurst along the lines that Favre groomed Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. Pete Carroll speaking after the acquisition of Whitehurst said, “We’re excited. We were looking for a guy for the future.”

Whitehurst is expected to compete with Seahawks longtime quarterback Matt Hasselbeck for the starting nod. Hasselbeck, 35, has been plagued with injuries over the past few years and could be ripe for replacement.

Whitehurst played his college ball at Clemson where he was a two year starter. He only passed for 4550 yards and 18 touchdowns in two season, but he was selected by the Chargers in the third round of the 2006 NFL draft. He does possess NFL quality size at 6’4″ 220 pounds and has a very strong arm which will help while playing in the weather conditions in Seattle.

Seattle was not the only team reported to be interested in Whitehurst this offseason, Arizona joined in the bidding, but ultimately lost out.

Seattle felt that it was a wiser choice to select a quarterback who has already been introduced into the NFL game than to select a rookie out of this years draft crop. He could turn out to be the leagues next Aaron Rodgers or Matt Schaub and that suits Seahawks fans just fine.
