SEATTLE - AUGUST 21: Quarterback Charlie Whitehurst of the Seattle Seahawks celebrates after the Seahawks scored a touchdown during the preseason game against the Green Bay Packers at Qwest Field on August 21, 2010 in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)

It took about a Quarter of play for the Seahawks second string offense to click but when they did it was impressive.  “Seahawk Serpico” Charlie Whitehurst looked like the gunslinger QB he showcased in the first preseason game.  Charlie chucked the ball downfield several times hitting the resurgent Mike Williams in the middle, Golden Tate down the sideline and Deon Butler for a touchdown.

“I kept throwing it with pure awesomeness and my sweetsie receivers just kept catching it.” – Fake Quote from Serpico Whitehurst

The Seahawks threw on First Down several times and weren’t afraid to air it out early.  Whitehurst is growing more and more each game.  I personally feel pretty good having Serpico backing up Hasselbeck.

Deon Butler showed everything a young receiver can show.  Deon showed great hands on several plays, he also made some great moves and yards after the catch.  The dude kept getting open and finding ways to move downfield.

“When Serpico let’s it fly….I catch it and good sh*t happens” – Fake Quote from Deon Butler

Having Mike Williams on our team makes me a happy guy.  He’s solid, doesn’t drop the ball and HE’S F#*KIN HUGE!  Reminds of when we had Joe Jurevicius.  Almost plays like a Tight End.  I can’t wait to see how we use this dude in the Red Zone.

“I’m a big f#*kin guy.  You throw me the ball,  I’ll catch it and run with five idiot Raiders on my back.” – Fake Quote from Mike Williams.

Golden Tate, aka Maple Bar looked awesome as well.  Great separation, great speed and his hands are impressive.

“Man, I just focus on that ball like it’s a golden floating maple bar.  Then I catch it.  It’s like that.” – Fake Quote from Golden Tate

Let’s cut ‘er down.  Rest up and get the 2010 season going.

Seahawks Should Showcase Some Big Plays This Season

SEATTLE , WA - DECEMBER 06: Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck #8 of the Seattle Seahawks throws the ball against the San Francisco 49ers at Qwest Field on December 6, 2009 in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by Jonathan Ferrey/Getty Images)

Growing up as a Seahawks fan in the 1980′s I witnessed some great trick plays, long shots down field, double reverses and exciting Seahawks offense.   The Mike Holmgren era didn’t possess much excitement on a “per play” level like the Chuck Knox era.  I’m not saying winning divisions championships and going to the Super Bowl isn’t exciting. It is.  But, there is something about keeping the defense on their toes with some big plays and something unexpected.

In the few preseason games this season, Seattle has thrown the ball deep successfully several times hitting different receivers.  They’ve run reverses that get more than 10 yards.

The feel of this offense, with the mind of Offensive Coordinator Jeremy Bates, makes me feel that the offense is going to try all kinds of things.  Maybe some of those old plays that worked in the past.

They have potential to give us one of these throwback plays. (Courtesy of YouTube)

I believe the excitement will be there this season and that Matt Hasselbeck can still make it happen.  He’s done it before.  When we first acquired Hasselbeck he was chucking the ball all over the place.  Remember this bomb to Darrell Jackson (one of my all-time favortie Seahawks) against the Cardinals (Courtesy of YouTube)

Dave Krieg set a nice standard of football craziness or awesomeness (that’s what I like to think).  Check out this longball to Brian Blades from Ol’ Mudbone (Courtesy of YouTube)

With targets like Mike Williams, Golden Tate, the new Deion Branch, The Fast Deon Butler and the big play ability of TJ Houshmandzadeh we can make these old classics come alive again.  Matt still has enough in his arm to do it and I believe Charlie Whitehurst can sling it as well.

The season to me is still hard to judge but I feel we will get to see something special on the field.

Seahawks News: Polumbus Discovers Seattle, Leroy Lowers Bill, Wilson Returns Home

SEATTLE - NOVEMBER 02: Josh Wilson #26 of the Seattle Seahawks enters the field before the game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Qwest Field on November 2, 2008 in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)

A whole bunch of Seahawks business went down today on both sides of the ball. Seahawks General Manager and “good ol’ boy”, John Schneider was running hard, sliding over the hood of the General Lee and ramping up football moves.  After not being able to acquire OT Tyler Polumbus off of waivers last week, Schneider made a move to acquire the big man on Tuesday from the Detroit Lions.  This was a must to keep Matt Hasselbeck and company moving forward until Russell Okung, Ben Hamilton and Chester Pitts are ready to rock.  Oh  by the way he’s 6 f’n 8!  3 Bills!

Here’s a bio sheet on the newly acquired Polumbus.

Leroy Hill looks like he will stick around for awhile, well at least this year.  The off-field troubled Linebacker agreed to a lower contract for this season to stay with the team.  I personally am glad to see Leroy stick around, the dude is good… on the field.  Schneider took advantage of a situation to keep Leroy around but establish a lowered paycheck for the misbehaving LB.

Lastly and yes sadly, the Seahawks traded the short but speedy Josh Wilson to the Baltimore Ravens.  Wilson was a good playmaker and a fan favorite.  The “Seabrass” must feel they have good defensive backs to make the move.

Pete and John keep tinkering and tinkering as they try to put a winner on the field this season.

The Seahawks are inching towards the beginning of the regular season as they started the “come in to my office, I have some news for you” part of the process.  The initial set of cuts was expected for most of the players, CFL Sack Leader Ricky Foley was one player that stood out in the land of cuts.

Some players are on the bubble, we’ll see what happens next.

Seahawks Victorious Without Winning Game vs. Vikings

SEATTLE - AUGUST 25: Wide receiver Nate Burleson #81 of the Seattle Seahawks celebrates an apparent touchdown with Deion Branch #83 during a preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings at Qwest Field August 25, 2007 in Seattle, Washington. The Seahawks walked away from the Metrodome a loser of a meaningless preseason game to the Vikings but the team flew home to Seattle all in one piece with some good things learned.  Mansfield Wrotto showed that he could hold off one of the league’s best pash rushers in Jared Allen and he kept his starting Quarterback healthy.  Rookie Safety Earl Thomas showed that if the ball bounces his way, he can make big things happen.  Wide Receiver Deion Branch is proving that he has a lot left in the tank, can be depended on by Matt Hasselbeck and that trading for him 4 years ago wasn’t a mistake.   Cornerback Marcus Trufant made a great play on a ball to block out the receiver and intercept a Brett Favre pass, reminding us of his Pro Bowl abilites.   The Seahawks held the lead through the starters time on the field, on the road, in Minnesota.  Not too shabby.

So, now  the team needs to lock it down over the final week of preseason.  Get our injured offensive linemen and linebackers healthy.  Give our rookies the tools they need for the season.  It’s been a strange preseason, I’ve felt real high on the potential of the team and I’ve seen it slip a little bit.  Honestly, I don’t know what to think about the team.  I do believe we will be watching an exciting brand of Seahawks football.  I like the feel of the offense and I believe the defense will play well when they are ALL together on the field.

One more meaningless game to go until we get the real deal on the field.
